While Kakinomoto no Hitomaro was a representative poet of Manyo-shu, the
oldest collection of Japanese poems, and was a prominent court poet who
lived in the end of the 7th century, he worked as an official in charge
of agriculture of Iwami region in his late years.
Hitomaro visited and consoled farmers who had had serious damages from
repeated floods. When Hitomaro madeup his mind to defeat the evil monster
which caused the floods, a goddess called Kanayama-hime, gave a magical
halberd to him to give the divine punishment to the evil ogres.
This story was newly written as a celebration of the glorious Kakinomoto
no Hitomaro, and is played by Takatsu-shachu(kagura theater group) which
is from Takatsu Kakinomoto Shrine.
