MasudaCity has been known as a crossroad through which railroads and highways have
intersected and converged. In 1993, Hagi-IwamiAirport opened and thereby provided
direct connections to Tokyo and Osaka.
The western part of ShimanePrefecture, where MasudaCity is situated, also lies in close
proximity to a number of famous attractions, including Tsuwano and Hagi. This area of the prefecture is blessed with a
rich variety of local resources.By
making optimal use of these resources, regional development continues unabated
around Hagi-IwamiAirport, which constitutes
the critical hub in this overall picture. In order to improve access to the
airport, construction on the Masuda section of General National Route 9, a
heavily used highway, has commenced, in addition, the conversion of the San-in
Main Line into an express train has resulted in a reduction in the time required
to go from MatsueCity to MasudaCity by approximately two
hours.
