Masuda City Pre-Games Training Camp for Road Cycling
～ Tokyo 2020 Olympic Paralympic ～

In March 2016, Masuda city applied to the Tokyo Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games to host pre-games training camp which officially started off this project. Masuda city set up a new section in July 2016 to promote Masuda as host city to countries planning to use training camp for Road Cycling prior to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Paralympic Games.

Why Masuda City

Masuda is a beautiful city surrounded by unspoiled, forested mountains, coastline facing the Japan Sea and Japan’s clearest river, Takatsu River, flowing through the city. This city is just 90 minutes by plane from Tokyo.

 Natural surroundings and roads with low traffic volume make the city an optimum place for cycling. Utilizing these ideal conditions, a local NPO has been actively promoting cycling by holding enjoyable cycling events and road races regularly - INAKA Ride from 2012 and Challenger’s Stage from 2014 - which attract cycling enthusiasts from all over Japan. As a result, it is quite common to see cyclists around the city during weekends and holidays.

Why Pre-Games Training Camp for Road Cycling

People from all over the world including athletes, staff and spectators, will visit Japan for the 2020 Olympic Paralympic Games held in Tokyo. Masuda city hopes to promote the city as a “cycling city” and attract cyclists from all over Japan as well as abroad. Masuda city also hopes to increase people’s interest in cycling, open opportunity for long term exchange/friendship programs with foreign countries/ cities and promote economic growth through cycling.

Cycling Events Held in Masuda

●Masuda INAKA Ride

Held in September
Starts & Finishes at Shimane Arts Center Grand Toit

 This is a fun & enjoyable cycling event for cycling enthusiasts. 160km, 120km and 60km courses include cycling along the runway of the local airport and scenic country roads. Some of the attractions of this event include local dishes served at every aid station and the local people cheering along the roads.

●Challenger’s Stage

　　Held in November
　 Starts & Finishes at Old Tane Primary School

　　This is a National Junior Road Race Championship for young athletes from 　 all over Japan aspiring to race in Tour de France and Olympic games.
