This play was made based on a folk story which has been passed down hand to hand by people for a long time in the area near Mt. Kizumi, a part of Tottori prefecture.
A long time ago, there were many ogres living in Mt. Kizumi. Those ogres often went down to villages around the mountain and did many illegal acts like kidnapping and robbery. The Emperor Koryo deeply regretted their deeds, and decided to give them punishment. A general of the Emperor's force suggested that the young prince Uguisu-oh should be the commander in chief for his first campaign.
While the Emperor's troop successfully defeated the ogres, the young prince, Uguisu-oh, died. Villagers were very glad about the victory but at the same time, they were much sorrowed for the death of the handsome young prince.
The villagers raised a shrine for the young prince and enshrined him as a deity, Sasafuku Daimyojin.
