Takemikazuchi, the god of thunder was ordered by Amaterasu, the goddess
of the sun, to negotiate with Okuninushi, the king of the land of rice
plants, for the peaceful transfer of his land to the goddess. Okuninushi
agreed and retired to the Izumo Grand Shrine in Shimane.
Takeminakata, a son of Okuninushi, disagreed. He tried to take the land
back by seeing which of them was the strongest.
Takemikazuchi was stronger than Takeminakata, so he defeated the other.
The land was transferred to Amaterasu peacefully.
